The Crazy Canucks #30 – Library Square Pub with CTV

Hello, world. I have not forgotten about you, but there are so many things going on that I can barely wrap my head around them all. Alas, I did get an episode of The Crazy Canucks out today. Watch CTV tomorrow, between 5pm and 7pm, to catch the story behind the story on this episode. Actually, the podcast gives you a better story, but whatever.

CTV in Vancouver contacted TCC about doing a “light feature” about our podcast, especially since this whole city is Canucks crazed with the first round of the playoffs going on. They started out with doing some shots with John “in the studio” and then followed us to a gathering of sorts at Library Square Pub, near GM Place.

Playoff record as of this recording:
Vancouver 1
Dallas 1

The package has not aired yet, and we’ll post a link to it if we can. Otherwise, enjoy the mayhem that is The Crazy Canucks. We break down the four OT win in game one, look at the injuries that resulted, who has come up, and get into a little listener feedback. Raw audio from CTV’s interview with Alanah is also included. Even though she couldn’t be apart of the fun at the pub, she (hopefully) still made it into the TV news. And if you found us from the CTV story, welcome!

The inside scoop on Cowan and the bra

I made a post over the long weekend about how we released another episode of The Crazy Canucks. What I didn’t take the effort of mentioning was an added bonus we had in that episode.

Canucks fans will be used to the whole hoopla of the bra incident and everything that has resulted from the night that Jeff Cowan scored his fifth goal of the season in three straight games. For those of you unaware, a bra was thrown on the ice in midst of the jubilation at GM Place.

In the latest release of The Crazy Canucks, we got the story from an event host who witnessed the throwing of the bra. She gave us her story and adds a lot of insight to the phenomenon that resulted in “Cowan the Brabarian”. Go check it out. We got permission from the Canucks organization to record from inside GM Place during the open practice on March 24, 2007.

In case you need some more back story or a refresher, check out the YouTube video below. And when you watch that, check out this one to see what I mean about hoopla, at least one week after the fact.

New TCC and RZ episodes posted

I don’t have a lot of time to explain, but been busy in the last week to not get a lot posted here. However, there are new episodes of The Crazy Canucks and RadioZoom posted. RZ brings you an interview with guitarist Keeley Davis of the band Sparta, and TCC goes on location at GM Place for the Canucks open practice with the whole crew. Fun was had by all, so you should go check them out!

The Crazy Canucks #26 – Playoffs are on the horizon

Posted this morning.

Dave is a healthy scratch on this episode, but the rest of the crew gathers to tackle the recent games, look ahead to who is coming up, and hash out some topics that the big media folks are drudging up. J.J. makes a call in from the game he went to against St. Louis(W), and we look at the other two games against Detroit(W) and Edmonton(W) in true TCC fashion.

Record as of this episode: 44-23-6
Northwest Division: 1st
Western Conference: 3rd

We also bring you some breaking news at the top of this episode regarding the Canucks and the world of podcasting, Alanah details her live blogging on the day of the Red Wings game, and J.J. presents some interesting insight to the slight against Naslund’s play even though the team record has been overly positive.

The Crazy Canucks #25 – Kukla’s on our Korner

Recorded last night, and posted this morning.

This is an episode that is chalk full of good stuff. Everyone is here this time around, and we even have a special guest, legendary internet hockey guru Paul Kukla from none other than KuklasKorner.com. We get to know him and look ahead to the game the Canucks will have this weekend against his favorite team, the Detroit Red Wings. Yes, it’s difficult to not talk about Bertuzzi being there now.

Record as of this episode: 41-23-6
Northwest Division: 1st
Western Conference: 3rd

No need to fear, we talk about the Canucks a lot as well. We take a look at the games against Phoenix(W), San Jose(W), Anaheim(L), and Minnesota(OTL). A new thing we’re trying is calling in after a game at GM Place, John and Rebecca being the suckers to try it out after an overtime loss to the Wild. We also are starting look towards the road ahead since the playoffs are coming into sight, and Paul chimes in with his perspective on how everything is going this season.

The Crazy Canucks #24 – All Cowan, all the time

Recorded last night, posted this morning.

Everyone is able to bring this episode together, and no SeaBus will stop us from having Dave chime in on his commute home. The rest of us gather together in traditional form, discussing the games against Phoenix(W), Minnesota(W), and Tampa Bay(W). The race for the playoffs is still tight, but now we’re fighting for the top of the division, maybe even a long shot to win the conference. It’s really getting to be an amazing season, considering where we started out from.

Record as of this episode: 39-22-5
Northwest Division: 1st
Western Conference: 3rd

There’s a variety of topics covered in this one, but this one was done just after the five goals in three games that Jeff Cowan inspired a fan to toss a bra on to the ice in jubilee. If it was theirs or not, and if it was a he or she, we’ll probably never know. Regardless, it was too inspiring to not talk about.

The Crazy Canucks #23 – Trade deadline decompression

Recorded last night, posted today.

Dave was a healthy scratch for this episode, but the rest of us gather to take on the past three games against L.A.(W), Dallas(OTL), and St. Louis(L). Also, we dive into the excitement of the NHL trade deadline, look at what the Canucks got, and examine how other teams in the division made out.

Record as of this episode: 36-22-5
Northwest Division: 1st
Western Conference: 3rd

Ryan Smyth going to the Islanders took a bulk of that attention in terms of the trade deadline, but that doesn’t make us Oilers fans by any means. Also, Bertuzzi going to Detroit means that we still might see him back in Vancouver before the season is over. We also look into some listener feedback, especially about the topic of the Canucks playing a game next season in the U.K.(Note: NHL confirmed that the Kings and Ducks would be doing this next season as of today, not the Canucks as our European friends might have hoped.) Additionally, we were given a scoop to a rumor on the new uniforms for next season, fueling the fire for a potential change to the logo.

Possible new Canucks jersey?

New Canucks UniformsThis could be completely false information, but it’s worth passing on for the sake of finding out if it is or not. An email came in to The Crazy Canucks about what showed up into this guy’s email. Based on this post by J.J. earlier today, I can’t say that I’m too surprised, and it fits with what I said about the new NHL uniforms coming about next season[post]. Still, are Canucks fans ready for the return of the stink-in-rink and Johnny Canuck?

Rebecca has a take on it, but we’ve been talking it over without really any conclusion of what we feel about it. Alanah put something on Kukla’s as well, so let the jury call the verdict. Is Buzz a victim or bringer of truth? You decide.

Update: Check out the comments in Alanah’s post. It appears that these are some mock ups created by a Canucks fan. Can’t say I blame them, but I figured I’d pass on the rumor for the sake of finding out for sure. Internets, you did your job.

Update – June 4, 2007: The jerseys are going to change.

Update – August 21, 2007: The jerseys are here on August 29, 2007

The Crazy Canucks #22 – Instigating a fight for the playoffs

Recorded and posted last night.

Rebecca takes a healthy scratch on this episode while the rest of us, even Dave, gather together to take a look at the last four games against Minnesota, Chicago, Colorado, and Anaheim. Things have been looking really good lately, and we all feel incredibly excited at the fact that the playoffs seem more and more in sight.

Record as of this episode: 35-21-4
Northwest Division: 1st
Western Conference: 3rd

With 22 games left in the season and the trade deadline looming, there’s a lot to talk about, but none of us are really too sure as to what we can expect. Something is bound to happen, and we all have our own theories as to who might go or stay. A listener from London checks in with a question about a possible Canucks game next season in the U.K.

A lot of things are going well, but as fans, we know that we have to be careful to not get too far ahead of ourselves. However, listen to our episodes from early this season and the mood was incredibly different. Oh how things can change…

The Crazy Canucks #21 – We are all Waiting For (the) Stanley (Cup)

Posted this morning.

Dave is another healthy scratch for this episode, but that doesn’t mean we like him any less. However, we did find another blogger who loves the Canucks as well, but you’ll also hear about the “other team” he follows. Sean, aka Zanstorm, from Waiting For Stanley joins us from Smithers, B.C. to discuss the last two games against the Blackhawks and Thrashers.

Record as of this episode: 31-21-4
Northwest Division: 2nd
Western Conference: 7th

The hunt for the playoffs is on, so we cover some of that ground after getting to know a little more about Sean. John and J.J. also report back on what they can remember about the Thrasers game at GM Place. Rebecca checks in with the ever intriguing players blogs, and we can’t help ourselves from addressing the trade talks.
