Have I The Right by The Honeycombs

I’m not sure what YouTube rabbit hole I stumbled down that made me come across this, but this is an early sixties group that I want to say I’ve heard before but without every really knowing this was them.

The Honeycombs, “Have I The Right”

I have never disliked the sound of the British Invasion but never had a gravitational pull towards it like I probably should because of the amount of influence it had on the era of the 90’s that I came of age in. The best explanation would be because of my parents who came of age in the era of rock and roll just before a new era in music came ashore.

Growing up in Kansas City, MO, she went to shows by Chubby Checker and Fats Domino. Never cared much for Elvis as much as she still loves Richie Valens and The Big Bopper. Dad built his own radios on the farm in Nebraska before meeting my mother in the big city, taking in the same sounds. What might be considered almost garage rock now, where the drums and saxophone dominated before the guitar amps got bigger and louder.

This song feels like it bridges that gap, holding onto the classic sound of sax, traded for a second guitar, and drums from classic 50’s American rock and roll.

I dare you to not get the chorus stuck if your head.
