The fun doesn’t seem to stop, and it’s been really great to see Keira and Duane getting into the action while we run around Vancouver to see what we can see while everything is going on for these games.
We were back at the House of Switzerland for Day 3 while Rebecca judged a chocolate competition. That’s some hard work right there, but someone has to do it.
Evidence of the Stephen Colbert nation and their presence in Vancouver has been spotted. I’m thinking these posters will be quite the collector’s item in the coming days.
As odd as it seemed to our Swiss hosts, we had fondue for breakfast at the Swiss House. Rich, melted cheese with a white wine and bread to dip in it. So good.
The judges of the chocolate competition as well as the chefs who created the three recipes we all got to try.
Winner on the left, but all of these creations were excellent. You can’t really argue with chocolate.
I love all the media that I’m seeing around town. These folks were with an outfit from Tokyo, so there stands a good chance that Rebecca will be on TV somewhere in Japan.
Downstairs of the Swiss House is worth checking out, especially if you want a different sense of national pride when their athletes are competing.
Granville Island was very busy this day. Waits to get into various houses were around one hour if not more. After leaving the Swiss House, we ventured to the Atlantic Canada House and waited in line for an hour to get in.
I’m doing more and more to capture the spirit of the various countries represented around Vancouver. Spotted my first Team USA supporters yesterday.
After waiting in line in the chilly shade, Atlantic Canada House was a great place to sit down for a pint of their various east coast brews, amazing food samplings, and to catch more events on TV.
And when you start saying where you are on Twitter, other people start to show up and new friends are made.
Keeping the True North Media House spirit in check, Robert Scales from Vancouver Access 2010 was on hand and did some live video streaming with his iPhone from our table.
Vectorial Elevation an art installation over English Bay with these amazing beams of light that change their position every minute or so. We can see these lights beaming into the sky from our balcony like searchlights looking for planes overhead. If you go to their website, you can even create your own light sculpture, no matter if you’re in Vancouver or not.
In addition to the showing of country pride on the people, I’m going to do more to capture the displays of pride in building windows, balconies, etc. Even though this is Canada, flags for Australia, Switzerland, and Japan have been popping up in west end apartments as well as all over the rest of Vancouver.
Day 3 has been one of the best days so far. We’ve met and talked to so many people just about what’s going on, where people are from, what they’re doing, where the cool spots are, and so on. And we haven’t even ventured out of the downtown core yet!
You can see all of my photos in my Vancouver 2010: Day 3 set on Flickr.
Yikes… glad I didn’t have to judge a chocolate competition 😉
Such a hardship – fondue and wine for breakfast. I am so impressed with how the Canadians are so united with their red apparel. Really love the red mittens with the while leaf. Will be watching tonight to see if we can spot the two of you in the crowd.
The Japanese news crew also managed to get a nice shot of Andrea and I stuffing our mouths with Lindt creations. I’m sure it was very classy.
